Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Bears crush Carver

ATLANTA -- For the second time this season, Miles had very little trouble with Carver College in a 73-46 win.

Miles opened a big lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Bears (6-0) did not allow a basket for more than seven minutes to start the game. By the time they allowed the Cougars (0-10) their first field goal, they still led 18-4. Miles led 34-22 at the half but struggled shooting the ball, making just 26 percent of its shots from the field.

That would change in the second half. The Lady Bears made six of their first nine shots in the third quarter, the last coming as part of a 3-point play by Markisha Body that pushed the Miles lead to 25 points. When Breah McGrady knocked down a short jumper at the buzzer, Miles held a 55-28 advantage. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears all of their reserves as saw the lead swell as high as 39 points when Tomesia Staten (two points, three rebounds, game-high five steals) scored to cap a 12-0 run to start the period.

Tishana Key had 10 points and nine rebounds as the only double digit scorer for Carver, which turned the ball over 40 times. Camryn London scored a game-high 15 points in just 18 minutes for Miles, which also got solid performances from McGrady (13 points, five rebounds), Body and Jakera Ellerbee (12 points each). Nuriyah Slaton had four points, four rebounds and four steals, while Imani Williams had a team-high eight rebounds for the Lady Bears, who play an exhibition against UAB tomorrow at 2 p.m.
