Winning back-to-back Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships has done little to quench the thirst for championship glory, on the field and in the classroom, for the Miles football program.
That is why head coach
Reginald Ruffin and his staff enjoy hitting the recruiting trail, looking for the next difference maker that could lead the Golden Bears to another league title. Through the first two days of the current signing period, Miles has inked 26 student-athletes to come play for the Golden Bears.
"It's always an exciting time at Miles when you get a group of guys that want to be here and are excited to be a part of this culture, this winning tradition, where we educate, we dominate, and we graduate," Ruffin said on Thursday.
"So this is big for us. It's a great signing class. Guys who are going to come in and give us what we need in order to continue being champions or for us to compete for championships."
Ruffin emphasized that the current list of players will probably grow as the staff continues to mine football talent from wherever it can find it.
"We're still open, whether it's walk-ons or other guys we might have missed," said Ruffin, a three-time SIAC Coach of the Year. "We try to do a lot before we get to camp. We say 'they're never here until they get to camp'. Once they get to camp, we're locked and loaded, ready to go, and ready to pursue that third straight conference championship."
