Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Bears snap skid

MOBILE, Ala. -- In need of a win to keep a grip on first place in the SIAC Western Division, the Miles women's basketball team came up big on Monday night against Spring Hill.

Using a defense that scored 28 points off 22 forced turnovers, the Lady Bears snapped a two-game losing streak by posting a 64-44 win over the Badgers at the Outlaw Recreation Center. Sakina Wynn amd Kahyanne Bolton each scored in double figures and Miles (10-5, 6-2 SIAC West) methodically wore down Spring Hill (5-15, 4-4) to earn the victory.

The game was tight early until Wynn knocked down one of her four 3-pointers to give Miles a 17-16 lead midway through the second quarter. The Lady Bears would not trail for the rest of the game, although Bolton and Jaylen Snipes (6 points) - aided by three consecutive steals - scored nine points over the final 64 seconds of the half to send the team into the half with a 32-25.

Spring Hill would score on its first possession of the fourth quarter to cut its deficit to 11 points but a quick fireworks display by the Lady Bears put the game out of reach. Wynn would sandwich a Victoria Sutton 3-ball with two of her own on three consecutive possessions to push the Miles advantage to 57-37 with 6:32 to go. The lead would get as high as 22 points and the Lady Bears would empty the bench en route to their 10th victory of the season.

Tiffany Valentine had 13 points and Elise Reilly had 10 points for Spring Hill. Wynn (20 points, 4 steals, 3 assists), Bolton (13 points, 3 steals) and Mya Millner (9 points, 7 rebounds) played well for Miles, which hosts Kentucky State on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
