Lady Bears stumble at Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. -- Just 10 days after fighting to finish off a struggling Albany State team, Miles found itself in trouble again on Thursday night. This time, though, the Lady Bears could not come up with a a solution that would get them in the win column.

The Golden Rams (3-12) were hardly dominant but never trailed in the entire game, forcing 18 turnovers and converting them into 15 points as they shocked the Lady Bears (9-4) 66-55 at the ASU West Campus Arena in a non-conference battle between the two SIAC foes. The loss snapped Miles' four-game win streak and was the eighth in their last nine trips to Albany.

Although Miles never led, it tied the score on five different occasions, the last coming on a Kahyanne Bolton steal and layup 90 seconds into the second half that knotted the score at 28.But for much of the game, every time the Lady Bears were on the cusp of making a strong run, the Golden Rams were able to seize control. Immediately following the Bolton score, Albany State went on a 13-4 run over the next 5:30 to take the lead for good. During that stretch, Miles went 1-of-4 from the field (the only basket was a 3-pointer by Sakina Wynn) and turned it over four times.

Miles got to within four points on two occasions early in the fourth quarter but could not get any closer. The Lady Bears did not help themselves, splitting 10 free throws down the stretch and shooting 48 percent (12-of-25) from the line for the contest.

Alexandria James had 19 points and Ciera Norman added 14 points for Albany State. Victoria Sutton and Mya Millner each had 11 points and Wynn added 9 points, a game-high 10 rebounds and 5 steals for Miles, which travels to Tuskegee on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
