Golf finishes fourth at PGA Works Championships

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Miles finished fourth in the Division II tournament at the 33rd PGA Works Collegiate Championships, which concluded Sunday at the PGA Golf Club Wanamaker Course.

The Golden Bears finished the three-day event at 991, well behind winner CSU-Dominguez Hills. But the team improved during each round and fired a 40-over 328 on the final day, which was the second-best round and completed an ascent from sixth after the first round and fifth after the second round to edge Fayetteville State by one stroke to finish fourth.

Christian Copen (+19) struggled on the final day but his hot start allowed him to finish tied for seventh overall with two rounds in the 70s, the only two rounds under 80 for the Golden Bears during the tournament. He really had it going during Day 2, when he made three birdies on the front 9 to shoot 1-under and sit at 4-over for the tournament. While he had trouble on the back nine all weekend, he did enough to pace Miles.

Chris Hastings (+33) shot an 8-over 80 on the final day to lead the Golden Bears and finished 25th. Taylor Simmons, Timothy Simpson and Chandler Holcomb (+42) each finished tied for 31st.
