Miles got contributions up and down the lineup, pounding out 13 hits while getting a strong effort in the circle from
Zamiyah Williams to defeat Tuskegee 10-2 Monday afternoon at the Pleasant Grove Softball Complex. The win ended a six-game losing streak for the Lady Bears (7-32, 6-11 SIAC) and keeps them alive for a spot in the SIAC Championships next week.
Every player for Miles had at least one hit.
Alexus Gonzalez went 3-for-3 with two runs batted in,
Davis Watkins had two hits and scored three times and
Yasmin Cottingham and
Chynna Gross each drove in two runs as the Lady Bears finished the Golden Tigers (12-24, 11-6) by run-rule in six innings.
Cottingham got the scoring started in the second inning with her first career homer, a solo shot to left. Tuskegee would tie the game in the bottom of the inning but the Lady Bears took the lead for good in the third thanks to a throwing error by the Golden Tigers that allowed Gonzalez to score for a 2-1 advantage,
The Lady Bears would break the game open in the fourth, scoring five times. Kritstie Looney and
Zakierra Webb and run-scoring singles before Gonzalez belted a two-run double to left center. Another Tuskegee throwing error capped the scoring and gave Miles a 7-1 lead. Miles would score three more times in the sixth with a two-run double by Gross and a RBI groundout by Cottingham doing the damage.Â
Williams kept Tuskegee at bay, allowing just five hits (all singles) and two runs to earn her fourth win.
The Lady Bears are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to face West Alabama. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
