Recruiting Setup 2019

Golden Bears release list of football signees

UPDATE -- Feb. 19 -- Miles adds another signee -- Rekevian Mathis -- bringing the total class up to 28.

Each year, college football coaches scour the landscape looking for new student-athletes to restock the roster. No matter how a team finishes in the standings the previous season, graduations and other defections make it a necessity for teams to find the best talent in order to make another run at a championship.

Things are no different for Miles head coach Reginald Ruffin and his coaching staff as they announce their new class of signees for the February 2019 signing period. Coming off a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship in 2018, the Golden Bears welcomed 23 new student-athletes to the fold on Wednesday - 17 who signed National Letters of Intent.

While the class is not especially large, Ruffin said that with a good number of returning players, his staff was targeting positions of need as much as it was looking for solid student-athletes.

"We really stocked up on defensive backs because we lost several of them from last season. We also targeted the offensive line, But we really like the guys that we were able to bring in," Ruffin said.

Miles also brought in six transfers who are already on campus. The staff hopes they are able to add to the veteran presence on a team that returns more than 15 starters. But even with the group currently in the fold, Ruffin said that he and his staff are still looking for talent.

"There are still opportunities for guys to come and play at Miles. We'll keep looking for guys we think can contribute all the way until we report for camp in August," Ruffin said.
