WILBERFORCE, Ohio -- Miles needed a win Monday night to keep alive an outside chance of grabbing the No. 2 seed in the Western Division for the upcoming SIAC basketball championships. But the Lady Bears went cold at the wrong time, squandering a nine-point second half lead in a 62-52 loss to Central State at Beacom/Lewis Gym.
The loss stopped a four-gam win streak for the Lady Bears (16-9, 9-8 SIAC), who split the season series with CSU (10-16, 7-10). Miles did not make a shot from the field over the final 4:24 and went 2-for-13 overall in the final period. The Lady Marauders led 50-48 before an 8-0 run over the next three minutes gave them their biggest lead of the game and eliminated any question about the final result.
Miles trailed by a single point after one period but held the Lady Marauders to just two buckets during the second quarter to take a 32-24 lead into halftime. A basket by
Sakina Wynn less than 90 seconds into the third quarter gave the Lady Bears a 34-25 advantage - their biggest of the game. Three minutes later, the entire lead was gone. But Miles closed the quarter on a 9-3 run to take a 44-42 lead into the fourth.
Jaeda Davis had 15 points and Falon Edwards added 14 for Central State.
Victoria Sutton had a game-high 16 points and Wynn added 10 points, six rebounds and five steals for Miles, which closes out the regular season with a non-conference road tilt at Albany State. Tip-off is at 4:30 p.m.
