Miles remained perfect on the season and in the Lady Bears Tip-Off Classic as it closed the two-day event with a 90-54 win over Oakwood Saturday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. It was the first time in 109 games that the Lady Bears (3-0) had scored at least 90 points, the last occurrence happening against Selma University in 2015.
Sakina Wynn had 13 points and 8 rebounds, both team highs, and Miles had 14 different players score at least one point. Defensively, the Lady Bears held Oakwood to 25.5 percent shooting from the field, just under the 26.1 percent they are holding teams to after three games this season. Miles also scored 34 points off of 35 Lady Ambassador turnovers.
The Lady Bears led the entire way. They opened a 14-4 lead six minutes into the game but a 3-pointer by Oakwood's Kaitlyn Hadley (11 points) cut the deficit to 21-18 just 90 seconds into the second quarter. But a 9-0 run, punctuated by a
Jaylen Snipes (11 points) bucket put the lead back into double figures for Miles and Oakwood would never get any closer. The Lady Bears led by 16 at halftime and saw its advantage bloom as high as 38 points late in the contest.
Andisa Labossiere had 11 points and Alexis Boykin had 10 points and 8 rebounds for Oakwood.
Charlisa Wellington (12 points),
Breah McGrady and
Victoria Sutton (9 points each), and
Mya Millner (7 points, 7 rebounds) were among the top performers for Miles, which plays at Auburn Montgomery Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
