Lady Bears fall to Tuskegee

Miles ran out to an early lead but was unable to get the big points when it needed, falling to Tuskegee in four sets (16-25, 28-26, 25-19, 25-19) Wednesday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. The loss is the fourth straight for the Lady Bears (4-12, 3-10 SIAC) and gave the Golden Tigers (6-12, 6-8) a sweep of the season series.

The Lady Bears scored seven straight points early in the first set and never relinquished the lead. They were helped by 13 attack errors by the Golden Tigers, who hit -.250 for the set. Miles opened a 24-21 lead in the defining second set and served for a 2-0 lead. But Tuskegee scored four straight points to force its own set point. Thanks to two Tuskegee errors, Miles again served to take the set but was unable to close the door, Instead, the Golden Tigers scored three straight points to take the set and even the match.

In the third set, Tuskegee opened an early eight-point lead and cruised to the win in taking a 2-1 advantage. The final set was tight early but the Golden Tigers scored four straight points to open a 14-9 lead. A kill by Maiya Northard (11 digs, 2 kills, 2 assists) cut the deficit to 17-14 but the Lady Bears never got any closer.

Erin Jackson (match-high 17 kills) and Crystal Hall (14 kills) paced the Tuskegee attack. Miles received additional contributions from La'Promise Boone (6 kills, 14 assists, 6 digs), Tatiyana Thomas (3 kills, 5 blocks - 4 solo) and D'Nautica Johnson (match-high 20 digs).
