Lady Bears drop second straight

JACKSON, Tenn. — Sakina Wynn scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds but another tough performance on the offensive end sent Miles to a 52-39 loss to Lane Saturday afternoon at J.F. Lane Gymnasium. The loss was the second straight for the Lady Bears (9-4, 5-3 SIAC West), the first time this season the team has lost consecutive games.

Miles never trailed in the first quarter and held a 9-8 lead after one period. But the Lady Dragons (6-12, 5-4) used a 12-0 run in the second quarter to break a 15-all tie and take the lead for good. The Lady Bears trailed 27-19 at the half and were not able to close the gap any closer than seven points throughout the third quarter.

In the the fourth quarter, Miles was able to make a run. Wynn made three baskets during an 8-1 run midway through the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 43-39 with 3:06 remaining. But the Lady Bears would not score another point, missing their last seven shots from the field and two free throws to close out a woeful performance from the field (12-of-48, 25 percent). The 39 points were the fewest Miles has scored in a game this season.

Cierra Brown had 12 points and Addie McNeely added 10 points for Lane. Victoria Sutton had eight points and two assists while Taylor Terry had two points and a team-high seven rebounds for Miles, which plays Monday night at LeMoyne-Owen. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
