Miles set to battle West Alabama

After a tough opening game that saw the Golden Bears shutout in their season opener for the first time in 25 years, Miles faces another tough task as they go on the road to face nationally-ranked West Alabama.

The Golden Bears' offense barely got going in the 37-0 loss to Alabama A&M last week. Running back Justin Hardy (62 total yards) accounted for nearly half of the team's 115 yards of total offense and Miles only visited the red zone one time. While West Alabama allowed 32 points in its season-opening win over Lenoir-Rhyne, it has never given up more than 16 points to the Golden Bears in 11 meetings.

While the defense allowed more than 400 yards to the Bulldogs last week, there were some solid individual performances, especially from the linebacker corps. Austin Stephens, who has moved to outside linebacker this season, had a game-high 14 tackles against Alabama A&M, two off his career high. His replacement at middle linebacker, freshman Antonio Evans, was second on the team with six tackles in his first collegiate contest.

West Alabama made it to the Division II playoffs last season and return several high-powered weapons on offense, including quarterback Harry Satterwhite, who was named Gulf South Conference Player of the Week after throwing for 256 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Tigers to a come-from-behind win last week. The win moved the team to No. 11 in this week's AFCA poll and looks to continue a trend dating back to the 2016 campaign, where it has won 17 of its last 21 contests.
