PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Miles golf team closed out its 2017-18 campaign with a fifth-place finish among Division II schools at the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship.
The Golden Bears shot a 978 during the three-round event, well behind winner Cal State-Dominguez Hills. Miles was able to better its score each day, shooting a final-round 321, which was fourth. SIAC Freshman of the Year
Tyler Simmons finished 16th overall after carding back-to-back rounds of 79 to finish with a three-round score of 238, 18 shots behind eventual medalist Sergio Escalante of Virginia Union.
Senior
Josh Lewis, playing in his final tournament, had the best individual round for Miles when he shot a second-round 77 en route to a 244. That was the second-best score for the Golden Bears and tied for 19th overall. Sophomore
Timothy Simpson (251) rebounded from a horrid first round to shave 12 strokes off that score on the final day and finish 21st. Freshman
Taylor Simmons (255) tied for 25th and fellow freshman
Christian Copen (265), who had the most birdies of any Golden Bear during the tournament, tied for 30th.
