CLEVELAND, Miss. -- Miles led for most of its season opener against Delta State but could not convert down the stretch in a 58-52 loss to the Statesmen Saturday at Walter Sillers Coliseum. Devante Fuller had 12 points and five rebounds and LaByron Harris added 10 points for the Golden Bears.

After leading by as many as 12 points and shooting over 50 percent from the field in the first half, the Golden Bears struggled offensively over the final 20 minutes. Miles shot just 36 percent from the field in the second half and turned the ball over eight times, which led to 10 DSU points. Still, when Nathan Sheffield (eight points) knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:26 left, the Golden Bears led 52-50.

But that would be the last made field goal for Miles, which missed is last six shots from the field. Rasheide Bell (12 points) would score the final eight points of the game for the Statesmen (2-2), who shot 67 percent from the field in the second half to complete the comeback.
