The Miles volleyball team celebrated Senior night with a three-set win (25-18, 25-17, 25-22) over Judson, the second win the Lady Bears (6-15) would earn over the Eagles in the past two weeks. The two seniors, outside hitter
Breanna Edwards-Demars and defensive specialist
Kamara Daughtry, shined in their penultimate performances at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
Edwards-Demars carried the Lady Bears early, getting half of her match-high 14 kills in the opening set. The 14 kills were just one off her season high, which she set in a five-set win over Fort Valley State on September 27. Her 15 points did set a new season standard. Daughtry had 12 digs and a kill. It was the third time she has reached double-digit kills this season, all coming in the past two weeks.
The star of the match, though, was junior
Briana Brown. The right side hitter had 10 kills, six digs, five blocks (three solo) and two service aces. Her 16 points were a career high while she set season highs in blocks and hitting percentage (.292). It was her work in the third set that helped Miles battle from a six-point hole to finish the sweep.
Lily Hawkins had seven kills and TeErica Davis had six kills and six blocks (five solo) for Judson.
Tatiyana Thomas (31 assists),
D'Nautica Johnson (15 digs),
Maiya Northard (five kills, 10 digs, three service aces) and
Raiana Johnson (five kills, two blocks) played well for Miles, which hosts Tuskegee Saturday at 1 p.m.
