MOBILE, Ala. -- After having its 55-game win streak in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play snapped by Miles on Friday, Spring Hill hoped to start a new run on Saturday at Murray Field.

That new streak got to one game.

After losing the opener of the doubleheader, 9-1 in five innings, the Lady Golden Bears used late-game heroics for the second consecutive day to beat the Badgers 3-2 in the nightcap to salvage a split and win the three-game series. Davis Watkins and Kathryne Lambert each homered for Miles (6-23, 5-3 SIAC) and Kendruena McPherson (2-4) earned decisions in both contests.

GAME 1: Spring Hill 9, Miles 1 (five innings)

After Watkins opened the scoring in the top of the second with a solo home run - the first of her career - the Badgers (27-14, 14-2) exploded for six runs in the bottom of the frame to put the game out of reach. The first three hitters reached base in the inning and Madeline Burchell brought them home with a triple. She would score on a sacrifice fly, which would be plenty of offense for Spring Hill. Miles had only five hits, two by Aishawrya Smith, as the game was halted in the fifth inning by 8-run mercy rule.

GAME 2: Miles 3, Spring Hill 2

Miles had allowed just two runs through five innings and both scored without benefit of a hit as a bases loaded walk and a throwing error by Lambert helped the Badgers to a 2-0 lead. But it was Lambert, just as she had done in the series opener, who provided the big hit to give the Lady Bears the lead. With one out and runners on second and third, Lambert hit her second home run of the series and seventh of the season - a blast to left center - to give Miles a 3-2 advantage. McPherson worked around a one-out single in the sixth and a two-out walk in the seventh to seal the win.
