JACKSON, Tenn. -- Miles saw its losing streak reach eight games when it dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Union Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Golden Bears lost the opener 7-2 and the nightcap 9-1 in six innings.
Victoria McDaniel had two hits and
Zakierra Webb scored two runs for Miles, which falls to 1-16 on the season.
GAME 1 - Union 7, Miles 2
A four-run third inning, aided by two Miles errors and all coming with two outs, was the big blow as Union jumped out to a 5-0 advantage. The Lady Bears did not have a hit until the sixth inning, when the bats finally came to life. Webb's bunt single was the first hit, which followed
Lydia Rodriguez reaching on an error. McDaniel struck out but reached on a wild pitch, which allowed Rodriguez to score. One out later, a run-scoring single by
Kathryne Lambert plated Webb and the Miles trailed just 5-2.
But the Lady Bulldogs would get both of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth off Miles pitcher
Jakari Suggs (0-7), who pitched a complete game and allowed eight hits and four earned runs. Gabby Morris got the win for Union after striking out 11 and allowing just two hits.
GAME 2 - Union 9, Miles 1 (six innings)
Union scored four runs over the first two innings off Miles starter
Brea Reese (1-6), who completed the game allowing eight hits and five earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts. In the third, Webb reached on an error and came home on a one-out RBI triple by McDaniel. But for the third straight inning, the Lady Bears could not get a runner home in scoring position when Kendreuna McPherson lined into a double play to end the threat. Three errors in a five-run sixth ended the game by the eight-run rule, the last coming on a run-scoring triple by Ashley Scott.
