LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- After being beaten soundly in the opening game of a doubleheader against West Alabama, the Miles softball team, behind pitcher
Kendruena McPherson, was almost able to gain a split in Tuesday's doubleheader at the UWA Softball Complex. But the Tigers, for the second time this season, swept the Lady Bears, this time 22-0 and 2-1. Miles (4-20) had just five hits over the two games, three by McPherson.
GAME 1: UWA 22, Miles 0 (five innings)
The Tigers his four home runs of
Brea Reese and
Jakari Suggs in a game that was ended after five innings. Â Audrey Diekmann led of the bottom of the first with a solo home run, Sarah Beth King hit a 2-run blast and Brianna Buie hit a grand slam as part of a 13-run third inning, then King hit her second dinger of the game - a 2-run shot - in the fourth. McPhereson had all three hits in the game for Miles.
GAME 2: UWA 2, Miles 1
West Alabama hit another first inning home run, this time by Ashley Smart, to take the lead. But after a second inning double, McPherson did not allow another hit until the sixth inning, when the Tigers scored again for a 2-0 advantage.
Miles tried to come back in its final at-bat. With one out,
Jordan Jones singled and
Lydia Rodriguez - who pinch ran for Jones, would score on a UWA error. But
Stephanie Roper would strike out to end the game as the Lady Bears wasted a solid effort in the  circle by McPherson, who allowed three hits and three walks while striking out two in the complete-game defeat.

Miles travels to Tuskegee for a three-game SIAC series this weekend. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First pitch on both days is at 1 p.m.
