Early leads in both games of a doubleheader were not enough for Miles to secure a win Wednesday evening against West Alabama. The Lady Golden Bears dropped the first game 8-2 before losing the nightcap 10-6 at A.H. Parker Field. Kathryne Lambert was the hitting star with a home run and four runs batted in but Brea Reese took the loss in both games - one as a starter and one in relief.

GAME 1: West Alabama 8, Miles 2

Lambert hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first that scored Victoria McDaniel and Kendruena McPherson to give the Lady Bears (1-12) an early lead. But with two outs in the top of the second, Reese served up a grand slam to Audrey Diekmann that put the Tigers ahead for good. While she gave up five runs in four innings, none of the runs against Reese were earned. In fact, only one of the eight runs scored by UWA was earned as Miles committed four errors.

Jess Guzman had two hits and Jakari Suggs pitched three innings and gave up five hits and three runs.

GAME 2: West Alabama 10, Miles 6

Lambert, again, jumped on West Alabama in the first inning, blasting a two-run home run to straight away center to give the Lady Golden Bears another 2-0 lead. UWA had erased the deficit and grabbed a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the fourth. But Miles did not fold, with Kendal Burrell lacing a double to left that saw Guzman slide in ahead of the throw to tie the game. Burrell, who went to third on the play, would score on a wild pitch to help Miles to a 4-3 advantage.

The Tigers, though, kept coming and went to work on Reese, who replaced Suggs in the top of the fifth. Two hits, along with some fielding mishaps, allowed UWA to score three times in the fifth. Miles would give up four more runs in the sixth that put them in a big hole. Still, the Lady Bears kept fighting. A RBI double from Jordan Jones and a fielder's choice RBI from Davis Watkins cut into the deficit. But the Tigers were able to stem the tide and left town with a sweep.
