Golden Bears suffer OT loss to Morehouse
Box Score
ATLANTA -- Miles saw its three-game win streak come to an end in a 93-84 loss to Morehouse Thursday night at Forbes Arena.
E. Reginald Smalls tied his season high with 22 points and
Shaquille Cook (16 points, game-high 14 rebounds) had his fourth double-double in five games for the Golden Bears (6-18, 6-7 SIAC). But Morehouse (14-9, 8-7) scored the first seven points in overtime to take control and capitalized on 27 Miles turnovers, which they converted into 31 points.
The Maroon Tigers appeared to have wrested control of the game from Miles late in the second half after a fast break layup by Martravious Little gave Morehouse a 75-69 lead with 2:13 left. But
Carl Garcia (12 points, eight rebounds, four assists) knocked down a jumper, stole the inbound pass, and fed
KeAndre Swopes for a layup that quickly cut the deficit to two points.
Morehouse twice had an opportunity to increase the lead but missed on the front end of a 1-and-1 both times to give Miles a chance to extend the game. Smalls drove to the basket and executed a perfect pass to Cook, who laid it off the glass for the game-tying bucket. The Maroon Tigers missed a 3-pointer that would have given them a win at the horn and the game went to overtime.
But the extra period saw Morehouse score on three of its first four possessions to put the Golden Bears in a deep hole. Smalls would score to cut the deficit to five but Miles would not get any closer.
Tyrius Walker scored a game-high 33 points for Morehouse.
Sheldon Wright had 13 points and
Joshua Johnson had nine points, five rebounds and three assists for Miles, which hosts Paine Saturday at 3 p.m.
