Division title tilt on deck

For the fifth time in seven years, Miles and Tuskegee will meet with the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Western Division title on the line. Both teams enter Saturday's 1 p.m. tilt at Cleve Abbott Memorial Stadium on a roll, with neither side having lost a contest since September. The winner will advance to the SIAC title game against Fort Valley State next week, the loser - more than likely - will have a quick end to its season.

The Golden Bears are on the road for the first time in nearly a month, having finished a three-game homestand by defeating Clark Atlanta 38-17. Miles never trailed, as Joseph Cambridge and Justin Hardy combined for five touchdowns in the win. It also pushed the team's streak to nearly 13 quarters in which it has not trailed.

The Golden Tigers have also been hot, winners of their last five. While Miles has averaged more than 34 points per game during it win streak, Tuskegee has had little problem putting points on the board, scoring 31 points per game during its streak, which included a 45-0 trouncing of Central State.

These two teams have been the class of the division since Reginald Ruffin left Tuskegee to take the head coaching position at Miles in 2011. While the Golden Tigers have won four of the six matchups, the teams have alternated wins since 2013, with each team earning wins on the road but losing at home. Miles' last trip to Cleve Abbott Memorial Stadium was a memorable one, as the team erased a 20-3 deficit in the second half to win 26-23, breaking Tuskegee's 19-year win streak on its homecoming and catapulting the Golden Bears to a Western Division title and the school's second SIAC Championship Game win.

The game will feature, arguably, the top players in the SIAC on offense, defense, and special teams. Coming into this week, Miles running back Justin Hardy leads the conference (and is 10th in the nation) in rushing yards, while also leading the SIAC in touchdowns and scoring. Tuskegee linebacker Osband Thompson leads the nation in total tackles (third in tackles per game), and Miles kicker Nick Christiansen leads the league in field goals made, extra points, and scoring by a kicker while also being among the top-20 in the nation in field goal percentage.
