Miles will close out the home portion of its 2017 campaign with a visit from Clark Atlanta in a Thursday night showdown. The Golden Bears will also honor those who have battled, and continue to battle, breast cancer by designating this contest as a "Pink Out", where fans are encouraged to wear pink to bring awareness to breast cancer.
The Golden Bears are hot, winners of three straight games that has them in a great position to return to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship game. After defeating Lane last week, Miles knows that it will need wins over CAU and Tuskegee to make a fourth championship game appearance in seven years under head coach
Reginald Ruffin.
While the Panthers chances at a SIAC title are all but extinguished, they did manage to pull off arguably the biggest conference upset of the year last week with a 44-36 win over Albany State. The win snapped a three-game skid for CAU but put the SIAC Eastern Division race up for grabs between the Golden Rams, Fort Valley State and Benedict.
It is a two-team race in the Western Division but Miles can't look past Clark Atlanta before a potential title game berth tilt at Tuskegee. If the Golden Bears are to win today, they will probably lean on their ferocious running game anchored by
Justin Hardy. The SIAC's leading rusher went over the 150-yard mark for the third straight week in the 23-13 win over Lane. He now needs just 96 rushing yards to become the first Miles player to go over the 1,000-yard mark in a season during the Ruffin era.
The defense will play an important role as well and no one has been more active than
Anthony Hardy. The senior linebacker had a season-high 12 tackles against Lane and had 43 tackles over the last four games. The game will also mark the last home performance for kicker/punter
Nick Christiansen, who scored his 200th career point and made his 40
th career field goal – both Miles records – in the win over the Dragons.
