Lady Bears drop fifth straight
Box Score
Miles followed a familiar script Thursday night at Knox-Windham Gymnasium, but again, there was not a happy ending for the Lady Bears.
After racing out to an early advantage, the Lady Bears were unable to close the deal against Talladega College, losing in four sets (23-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-22)Â for a five-match losing skid.
Alexus Moore had a team-high seven kills,
La'Promise Boone had a double-double (18 assists, 12 digs) and
Kayla Ford was solid off the bench (10 digs, four service aces) but Miles (3-7) was unable to close the deal against the Tornadoes (2-9), who got a monster performance from Carla Novaes, who had 15 kills and 20 digs.
The warning signs started to show in the opening set. The Lady Bears had opened a big lead but the Tornadoes were able to close a seven-point deficit to 24-23 before they were able to close out the set. The second set saw Miles take a 16-9 lead as Talladega was having trouble just staying in rotation, losing two points for serving out of turn. But Miles let the Tornadoes back in the match and consecutive attack errors by Moore,
Skyler Johnson and
D'leisha Dent allowed them to take the set.
In the third set, Miles led 24-23 and was serving to retake the lead in the match. But three straight points, the last on an ace by Tamera Prince, gave Talladega another come-from-behind win and a 2-1 advantage in the match. The final set saw more errors from the Lady Bears, who made 75 errors during the match and hit just .008. After Talladega ran out to an big lead early, Miles was able to bring it within three points on a couple of occassions but were not bale to get any closer.
Miles will return to action next week at the SIAC Crossover in Albany, Ga., matching up against teams from the Eastern Division beginning Sept. 22.
