Softball takes first game at SIAC Championship

HAMPTON, Ga. -- Miles fell behind early but the offense put up crooked numbers in four different innings to take a 12-4 win over Benedict in the opening round of the 2016 SIAC Softball Championships on Thursday. The Golden Bears had five extra base hits and won the game by 8-run mecy rule.
Down 2-0 after a half inning,
Jamellya Ducker blasted a 2-run home run to knot the game in the bottom half of the frame. The Golden Bears took the lead for good in the third, scoring three unearned runs with the help of two Benedict errors. The Tigers cut their defecit to 5-4 in the top of the fourth, but Miles put the game away in the fifth.
Khandi White-Tolbert's two-run triple scored
Kathryne Lambert and Ducker. A sacrifice fly by
Jordan Jones scored White-Tolbert to extend the lead to 8-4. The Golden Bears closed it out in the sixth. Consecutive RBI doubles by Lambert, Ducker, and White-Tolbert ended the contest and sent Miles on into the winner's bracket.
Next up for the Golden Bears is Kentucky State, which upset top-seed Claflin on Thursday. The golden Bears swept all three games from the Thorobrettes this season. First-pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
