Box Score

Hot bats, along with some help from LeMoyne-Owen's defense, helped Miles earn a 12-4 win over the Magicians Sunday afternoon in a game shortened to five innings by the 8-run rule. Pitcher Kendruena McPherson had three hits and scored three times while striking out six hitters in the complete-game victory. Ashlee Alexander and Jordan Jones each had two RBI for the Golden Bears (3-15, 3-0 SIAC).

The Magicians (0-3, 0-3) scored a run in the top of the first but starting pitcher LaNisha Perry gave it back multiple times in the bottom of the frame. Victoria McDaniel led off with a single and Alexander attempted to lay down a sacrifice bunt. But the LeMoyne-Owen pitcher threw the ball away, something she would do again - sandwiched around an error at shortstop - that led to four unearned runs and a pitching change before the end of the inning. In total, Miles would score five times to take what appeared to be a commanding lead.

But LOC stormed back in the second. LaRaya Fisher belted a solo home run and Latiasha Kent added a RBI double as part of a 3-run second to cut the deficit to 5-4. Miles would add single runs in the second and third innings before exploding in the fourth. Jamellya Ducker started the scoring with a sacrifice fly that scored Alexander and McPhereson would score on a wild pitch. Jones and Karla Kennedy would add run-scoring singles before Alexander would walk with the bases loaded to close out the scoring.

Miles is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts a doubleheader with Columbus State. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
