Hot shooting from Steger seals win
Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --
Ashley Steger got hot from downtown in the second half against Tuskegee Monday night, making all five of her 3-point attempts and scoring 15 of her season-high 22 points to help Miles close the regular season with a 67-53 win at Bill Harris Arena.
The Lady Golden Bears (15-11, 10-7) earned the West Division's No. 2 seed and will open the SIAC Tournament next Monday night against the same Golden Tigerettes (5-20, 4-13) team they have beaten twice in the last three weeks.
Shaquinta Sales, one of three seniors who played their final regular season for Miles, had 10 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots.
Miles led nearly the entire way, holding a seven-point lead at halftime. A 3-point play by
Morgan Hardy and a 3-pointer by Steger (who was 6-of-7 from downtown) were part of an 8-0 start to the third quarter to give the Lady Golden Bears a 41-26 lead - their biggest of the game. But Tuskegee started to claw back, using pressure defense to speed up the pace and force some inconsistent basketball from Miles. Tuskegee cut the Miles lead to three points early in the fourth quarter. But
Tierra Williams (12 points, five assists, three steals) hit a 3-pointer and Steger knocked down two more as the Lady Golden Bears won going away.
Aryana Jackson scored 21 points and Rachel Brownlee added 16 for Tuskegee.
Javonne Brown had eight points and four rebounds while
Morgan Hardy added five points, nine rebounds and three steals for Miles.
