Lady Bears suffer third straight defeat

Victoria Sutton scored 14 points and
Larian Scott added 10 points but Miles fell behind early en route to its third straight defeat, 96-78, to Saint Leo in its final game of the Lynn Holiday Classic.
Chelsey Springs scored 27 points, including all 11 of her attempts from the free throw line, to lead five players in double figures for the Lions (5-5). The loss for the Lady Golden Bears (4-6), who where outshot at the free throw line 43-16, was their third straight.
Miles led just once, after a 3-pointer by Scott gave the team a 3-2 lead. After
Rickeytha Davis (eight points, five rebounds) tied the game at 5, SLU scored nine straight points to take the lead for good. The Lions led 48-33 at the half and were up 17 points in the third quarter before the Lady Bears began to mount a comeback. Twice, jumpers by
Taylor Terry (eight points), the last coming with two seconds left in the third quarter, cut the deficit to eight points.
The Lady Bears were down just 78-72 with 4:43 remaining after a
Morgan Hardy (six points, nine rebounds). But Saint Leo made a steady run to the charity stripe for the rest of the game, making 14-of-16 free throws to close out Miles.
Ragen Dotson had 14 points and seven rebounds while Madelin Lang had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists for Saint Leo.
Ashley McCrear had 10 points and six rebounds for Miles, who play Alabama-Birmingham on Dec. 28 in an exhibition for the Lady Bears.
