CARROLLTON, Ga. -- Miles was hoping to see improved results in its second game of the season as it took on host West Georgia Sunday in the Wentz Financial GSC-SIAC Classic.

But the Golden Bears suffered through a dismal first half, shooting just 23 percent from the field, turning the ball over and being outworked on the glass as the Wolves jumped out to a 20-plus point lead en route to a 102-70 win at the Coliseum. Javier McKinney had 19 points and five rebounds to lead Miles (0-2) but UWG had four players score in double figures, led by Stephaun Branch's 25.

For the second straight contest, Miles scored the first points of the game and was tied at 6 when the teams hit the first media timeout. But from there, West Georgia would dominate the rest of the first half. The Wolves would go on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes and they would keep a double-digit advantage for the last 30 minutes of the game. The Golden Bears would turn the ball over 12 times which led to 12 UWG points as they trailed 47-23 going into the break.

While the second half offered little respite from the Wolves' onslaught, the Goldn Bears looked much better, especially on the offensive end. Miles shot nearly 44 percent from the field and got good looks on offense. They also were able to push the tempo, which led to more odd man attacks at the basket. McKinney scored all of his points in the second half on 7-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-5 from the 3-point line. KeAndre Swopes, who was 0-for-3 from the field in the first half, scored all eight of his points over the final 20 minutes on 4-of-6 shooting, many of the baskets coming on layups.

Keron Biggs had 17 points and Shannon Fowler had 12 points and 11 rebounds for West Georgia. Chauncey Day (nine points, eight rebounds, four steals), Shaquille Cook
(eight points, nine rebounds, three steals) and Carl Garcia (seven points, five assists, three blocks) all contributed for Miles, which plays at Montevallo Friday at 7 p.m.
