Miles played for the first time in 10 days on Thursday night, trying to get back on the winning track after dropping its last game at Benedict.

After getting out to a nice start, the Lady Golden Bears went ice cold in the second quarter, making just one basket in an otherwose putrid period as Central State took control en route to a 68-56 win at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. Morgan Hardy had 14 points, 12 rebounds and four steals for Miles (8-6, 3-2 SIAC), who went nearly nine minutes without a basket as the game slowly slipped away.

The Lady Golden Bears lead 16-11 after the first quarter and 20-15 when Torborsha Holley scored with 7:51 left in the second half. But Central State (5-8, 2-5) put the clamps on Miles from that point, forcing 10 turnovers and an 0-for-5 showing from the field to finish out the first half with a 32-21 advantage.

Things did not get much better in the second half for Miles. CSU kept the advantage in double figures for the most part as the Golden Bears never got closer than nine points. Add a woeful performance from the charity stripe (15-for-29, 51 percent) when the team shot 20 more free throws than the Marauders over the final 20 minutes and there was little wonder how CSU came away with the victory.

Kourtni Perry (16 points, 10 rebounds), Sierra Harley (15 points) and Jordyn Bond (13) each scored in double figures for Central State. Larian Scott had eight points and Shaquinta Sales addd seven points, eight rebounds and two blocks for Miles, which hosts Kentucky State on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
