FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. -- Going on the road to open the season is rarely a great proposition for any team, let alone one that is incorporating several young players and looking to build chemistry on the court.

Unfortunately for Miles, that was the exact position it found itself in on Saturday as it dropped a pair at the Emmanuel College Tournament. The Lady Golden Bears fell in straight sets to both the host Lions and West Georgia.

The opening match against the Wolves was competitive (19-25, 16-25, 17-25) as the Golden Bears held early leads in all three games. But an abundance of attack errors (21 total) led Miles to hit -.014 over the course of the match and saw West Georgia have too many 5- and 6-point streaks that put games out of reach. Kayla Ford had five aces, 11 assists and seven digs while Genesis Daniels had a team-high seven kills.

The final match against Emmanuel (12-25, 20-25, 5-25) did not see the Golden Bears produce many positive results. The Lions attacked at will and did not make a single attack error over the final two games while Miles suffered on the attack, especially in he final game when it had just one kill against eight errors (-.304). Alexis Reed had a team-high four kills, Skyler Johnson had eight digs and Ford had three aces, three digs and 10 assists.

The Golden Bears are back in action Friday as they open the SIAC Western Division Cluster at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The first match, against Lane, begins at 10 a.m.
