Miles erased an early 3-0 deficit and was poised to end its losing streak Tuesday afternoon against Stillman. But needing three outs to win the opening game of a 3-game set, the Lady Golden Bears could not seal the deal.

A two-out, run-scoring single by Sami Story capped a two-run rally in the seventh inning to propel Stillman to a 5-4 win over Miles at Shea Brothers Softball Complex. The loss was the eighth straight for the Lady Golden Bears (6-21, 6-9), who scored their most runs in a game in almost three weeks but could not nail down the win.

The Tigers (17-14, 12-2) got a two-run double from Rachel Skelton in the second and added another unearned run in the fourth to take the lead against Miles' lifeless bats. But the Lady Golden Bears came alive in the fourth. Jamellya Ducker's RBI triple got Miles on the board in the fourth and Madison Westbrook added a run-scoring single in the fifth to cut the deficit to one.

The Lady Golden Bears finally took the lead in the sixth. Kendreuna McPherson beat a throw to the plate on a Paige Dill grounder to tie the game at 3. With two outs, Khandi White-Tolbert singled to center off Stillman starter Kristina Kelly to put Miles in front.

Miles pitcher Talana Brown had breezed through the fifth and sixth innings but immediately ran into trouble in the seventh. Back-to-back doubles tied the game at 4 but Brown and the Golden Bears were one out away from escaping the jam before Story's single put the Tigers on top for good. Miles went meekly in the bottom of the frame to close out the game.

McPherson and White-Tolbert each had two hits for Miles while Brown allowed seven hits and four earned runs in the loss for Miles, which hosts Stillman in a doubleheader at the Shea Brothers Softball Complex on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
