Miles Struggles on Senior Day
Box Score Only 10 days removed from outlasting Lane on the road, Miles was unable to match the feat at home, fading down the stretch in a 77-57 loss to the Lady Dragons on Senior Day at Knox-Windham Gymnasium.
The Lady Golden Bears (7-18, 4-14) shot just 31 percent from the field, made less than half their free throws (13-for-27) and were outrebounded 52-46. But this game was more about being unable to make any kind of sustained run against the Lady Dragons (5-18, 5-12), who gained an advantage on Miles in seeding for the upcoming SIAC Basketball Tournament with the victory.
Senior
Porshia Blue scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Miles, but she was the only player in double figures and it her 18 shots from the field to get her points. She scored 18 of those points in the first half, as Lane made a concerted effort to deny her the ball for most the second half. The Lady Golden Bears got the first basket of the game from senior
Asia Anchrum, her only points of the game, for the only lead they would enjoy.
Lane led 38-30 at the break and anytime it appeared Miles would have a chance to change the momentum, the Lady Dragons put a quick end to it with their own run. Miles was down nine points with just under four minutes to go but the Lady Dragons finished the game on a 16-5 run to win going away.
Tiffany Martin had a game-high 25 points and Crystal Rayford had 10 points and 16 rebounds for Lane.
Joidon Jennings had nine points and eight rebounds while seniors
Wendy Miller and
Ebony McNeill combined for seven points, two rebounds and two assists for Miles, which closes out the regular season on Wednesday when it travels to play Concordia-Selma. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
