FRANKFORT, Ky. – For as close as Miles' women's basketball team has battled Kentucky State the last two weeks, it would be hard to believe that, record-wise, one team has been vastly superior to the other.

The Lady Golden Bears held a one-point lead with less than four minutes to play and the score was tied on 10 different occasions but Miles was shutout over the last three minutes in falling 62-57 to the Thorobrettes at the Exum Center Saturday afternoon. Porshia Blue scored 31 points – her second 30-point effort of the season – for Miles (7-16, 4-12 SIAC) but it was not enough to keep Kentucky State from winning its 10th straight game.

KSU (18-4, 13-2) would take an early 8-2 lead but no one would hold a bigger advantage throughout the contest. Blue was able to get to the rim at will in the first half, scoring 19 points over the first 20 minutes. But the Lady Golden Bears trailed most of the half and went to the locker room trailing 30-26.

Miles continued to stay close in the second half but could not get over the hump until Ashley Steger (seven points) drained a 3-pointer with 6:41 left to give the Lady Golden Bears a 51-50 lead. Two free throws by Ebony McNeill (six points) pushed the advantage to three points but KSU would not go away.

Brieona Warner (20 points) would score with 2:48 remaining to give the Thorobrettes the lead for good and that was the last bucket of the game. Miles would miss its last six shots from the field and KSU would drain 4-of-6 free throws to seal the win.

Shaquanda Wiggins scored 18 points and grab 18 rebounds for KSU. Alasha Foster had six points and four rebounds for Miles, which concludes its five-game road swing with a visit to LeMoyne-Owen on Monday night. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
