Lady Golden Bears Run Down Lane
Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. -- As the season winds down, Miles may just be beginning to peak. At least that is what the Lady Golden Bears hope is happening with the SIAC Tournament looming.
Miles overcame a 10-point, second-half deficit to get its third win in five games, pulling out a 67-64 win over Lane Thursday night.
Porshia Blue scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace the Lady Golden Bears (7-15, 4-11), who are 2-1 on a five-game road trip. Chloe Roberts scored 20 points to lead the Dragons (3-17, 3-11).
Miles shot just 26 percent from the field in the first half and trailed 34-27 going into the break. But the Lady Golden Bears, again, used what has become a vaunted pressure defense to force the pace against Lane. Miles scored 19 of their 24 points off turnovers in the second half as it climbed back from a big hole. Down 52-42 with eight minutes to play, Miles scored 14 consecutive points - the last two on a jumper by
Ebony McNeill (10 points) - to take the lead. The two team would go back and forth on the scoreboard but Miles would wrap six free throws - five by Blue - around a jumper by McNeill to stave off the Dragons.
Crystal Rayford had 15 points and 13 rebounds for Lane.
Ashley Steger added 10 points for Miles, which plays Saturday at Kentucky State. Tip-off is scheduled fro noon.
