Miles drops road contest at Montevallo
Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- After back-to-back wins over Selma University, the Miles women's basketball team had hoped to keep the streak going Wednesday night against the University of Montevallo.
A quick start had the Lady Golden Bears energized but ultimately, the Falcons were able to defend their home court with a 61-52 win at Trustmark Arena.
Larian Scott scored a game-high 18 points but Miles (2-2) could not keep Montevallo (2-3) from scoring some easy baskets while shooting 46 percent from the field.

Alasha Foster free throws gave Miles a 12-10 lead with four minutes remaining, but Montevallo closed the quarter on an 11-2 run to lead 21-14 after the first 10 minutes.
The Lady Bears held the fort defenisvely in the second quarter, allowing just eight points and holding the Falcons to 21 percent shooting but still trailed 29-25 at halftime. Miles, though, could not replicate that effort to start the second half. Montevallo used a 15-4 run over a six-minute stretch in the third quarter to open its biggest lead at 44-29. Two
Torborsha Holley free throws with four minutes remaining in the game brough Miles to within 54-49 but that is as close as the game got the rest of the way.
Rayvon Christian led the Falcons with 12 points. Holley and
Tierra Williams added 12 for Miles, which opens SIAC play on Saturday when it hosts Clark Atlanta. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
