Holley shines in Miles win over Selma
Box Score One week after Selma University nearly upset Miles, the Lady Golden Bears made sure Monday night's contest would not go down to the wire.
Torborsha Holley scored a game-high 21 points,
Shaquinta Sales was a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and five Miles players scored in double figures as Miles rolled to a 91-56 win over the Lady Bulldogs at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. The Lady Golden Bears (2-1) never trailed, forcing 32 turnovers and building a lead that was as high as 37 points.
Selma stayed close early, trailing 22-15 after the first quarter. But Miles broke the game open against the short-handed Lady Bulldogs in the second. A 3-pointer by
Amoni Walker at the 7:57 mark gave Miles a 27-17 advantage and the lead would stay in double figures the rest of the night. A steal and breakaway layup by Holley with a minute remaining helped the Lady Golden Bears to a 47-29 halftime lead.
Rebecca Payne (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Tatiyana Griffin (20 points, seven rebounds) paced the Lady Bulldogs.
Javonne Brown (14 points, nine rebounds),
Larian Scott and
Jamarra Taylor (10 points each) all scored in double figures for Miles, which travels to Montevallo on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
