Miles had long odds of winning the SIAC Volleyball Tournament this week, entering as the West Division's No. 4 seed and having to battle through a tough field with a young group.

Those odds were dashed Thursday morning at the Birmingham CrossPlex when the Golden Bears were swept by Benedict (25-14, 25-13, 25-22), ending their season with an 8-23 record. The Tigers (15-14) advanced in the loser's bracket of the tournament. Skyler Johnson led the team with seven kills and 16 digs, Eboni Johnsod added seven kills and hit a team-leading .278 and Kayla Ford had 10 assists, eight digs and two service aces.

Miles scored the first four points of the opening set but Benedict tied the score at 7, gradually took a 15-10 lead, then scored seven straight points to put the set out of reach. Another solid start by the Golden Bears had Game 2 knotted at 8 before the Tigers went on a 10-2 run to take control and grab a 2-0 advantage. The team played markedly better in the final game, but several early errors put it in a hole and they were unable to recover.

The Golden Bears found themselves in the loser's bracket after falling to top-seeded Clafin (25-18, 25-17, 25-17) on Wednesday. Claflin hit .377 as a team and .458 in the second set. Jamie Dobson tallied a team-leading 10 kills and Sonia Rosales added a match-high 38 assists for the Panthers. Ford finished with 10 assists for Miles while Alexus Moore led the offense with seven kills.

Miles performed well in the opening set, getting 12 winners and hitting .290 as a team. But the Panthers (18-13) eventually wore down the Golden Bears, who had just 10 winners over the finaly two sets and hit .080 overall.
