THE OPPONENT: The University of West Georgia is coming off a 38-26 win over SAC conference member Mars Hill last weekend.

THE SERIES: In this battle between NCAA DII, Super Region Two foes the leads the series at 6-1. The series dates back to 1981 when the Wolves defeated the Golden Bears 37-14.

A GOLDEN BEARS VICTORY OVER UWG WOULD: Snap a one game season opening losing streak while also cutting West Georgia's series lead to 6-2.

THREE GOLDEN BEARS RECEIVE WEEKLY HONORS

Three Golden Bears received SIAC Player of the week honors after last weeks performance:Defensive Player of the Week: Rodrick Holloman (12 Tackles, FF), Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Jonathan Clark (212 Rushing yds, TD) Offensive Lineman of the Week: Aderius Hood (463 Total Offense)

COMING OUT PARTY

Sophomore runningback Jonathan Clark had a coming out party of sorts as he rushed for 212 yards on only 16 carries and a 73 yard TD run garnering Co-Offensive Player of the Week Honors.

DONT WORRY I GOT THIS

Junior linebacker Rodrick Holloman stepped in and started for the injured SIAC Pre-Season Defensive Player of the Year, Julantate English, and had a career performance finishing with 12 tackles (7 solo), a forced fumble, a 98-yard 2pt conversion return on his way to being named SIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

GOLDEN BEARS ON NATIONAL TV...

The Golden Bears will play in front of a national television audience against SIAC conference foe the Tigers of Benedict College on Thursday, Oct. 2nd at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network as part of the NCAA Division II National Game of the Week package.

AND THE ALL-CONFERENCE GOES TO...

For the second consecutive year The Golden Bears were well represented on the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) pre-season all conference teams as voted by the coaches. Nine Miles College players were voted on the team highlighted by Terrance Owens, Aderius Hood, Delarius Webb, Braysean Jones, Joe Beckham and Julantate English whom were selected first teamers.

SOME NEW FACES...

Golden Bears head coach Reginald Ruffin has added former NFL standout and Super Bowl Champion with the St. Louis Rams, Dexter McCleon, to coach the cornerbacks. Also joining the staff are former Tuskegee University wide receivers coach, Rodney Bivins, and former All-MAC kicker at Ball State, Brian Jackson.

SWEET HOME ALABAMA...

The 2014 Golden Bears roster includes 47 players from the great state of Alabama, and 25 from the Peach State, Georgia.

NEXT OPPONENT...

The Golden Bears will travel to Hampton, Virginia to take on FCS and MEAC Conference member the Pirates of Hampton University next Saturday, September 20 at 5 p.m. CT
