FAIRFIELD, Ala. – With less than four minutes remaining, Miles had erased a double-digit, second half deficit to forge a tie at 58 with Middle Georgia State.

But the Lady Golden Bears were never able to take the lead, making just one basket down the stretch in a 72-62 loss to the Knights at Knox-Windham Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The loss was the fourth straight for Miles (1-4), which is not back in action until it opens SIAC play next month.

Ashley Steger (19 points, four rebounds) and Sommer Harper (11 points, five rebounds) provided firepower off the bench for the Lady Golden Bears while Porshia Blue (15 points, nine rebounds, five assists, three steals) continued her hot start to the 2014-15 season. Middle Georgia (5-5) had three players in double figures, led by Jamarra Taylor's 19 points.

The two teams were tied at 18 with eight minutes left in the first half when the Knights finally forged some space between the two combatants. Middle Georgia State led by as many as nine points late in the half before a layup by Blue right before the buzzer kept the Lady Golden Bears in a 32-25 hole.

Miles continued to battle in the second half but could not come up with an answer early. When Shaquita Hodges drained a 3-pointer with 11 minutes remaining, the Knights opened a 50-37 advantage – their largest lead of the contest.

Finally, the Lady Golden Bears went on a run. Asia Anchrum (seven points, seven rebounds) started the surge with back-to-back buckets. Then, Harper and Steger got hot from the outside, draining three 3-pointers between them. When Ebony McNeill (six points, three rebounds, three assists) scored with 4:35 remaining, the score was tied at 58 and the momentum had clearly turned in Miles' favor.

But Tia Troup took over for the Knights. She scored 10 of her 16 points over the last 3:37, converting from the field and the free throw line, to help Middle Georgia State pick up the road victory.
