Miles Drops Rematch at UWA
Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama had revenge on its mind when it hosted Miles in the second game between the two South Region schools in the last three weeks.
The Tigers dominated the Lady Golden Bears on the glass and held them to a season-low in points scored and shooting percentage with a 60-43 win at Pruitt Hall. Since the season-opening win over UWA, Miles (1-3) has dropped three straight.
Porshia Blue had 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals and
Ashley Steger came off the bench to add 11 points, four rebounds and two steals for Miles. But the Lady Golden Bears never led as UWA used a 13-3 run midway through the second half to put the game out of reach.
The Tigers opened up a double-figure lead on a couple of occasions in the first half but a late basket by Steger held the Miles deficit at 31-23 going into the half. The Lady Golden Bears shot 24 percent from the field but had nine offensive rebounds and seven second chance points to keep the game close.
The poor shooting, though, would ultimately catch up with Miles. Steger would drain a 3-pointer with a little more than 14 minutes left in the game to pull the Lady Golden Bears to within 37-34. Unfortunately, that would be the team's last field goal until a layup by Blue almost 11 minutes later. By then, the UWA lead would swell to 50-36 and Miles would not get closer than 11 points the rest of the contest.
Brittany McCloud (19 points, 11 rebounds, six assists) paced UWA, which has now won three straight. Miles is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Middle Georgia College at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
