Box Score

ATLANTA - An 11-point second half lead was not enough to secure Miles a split at the Clark Atlanta Tournament.Elizabeth City State erased the deficit during a four-minute stretch midway through the second half before holding on for a 67-64 win over the Golden Bears at Epps Arena on Sunday.

Porshia Blue scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Javonne Brown added 14 points for the Lady Golden Bears (1-2), who had a chance to tie the game late but missed a free throw and watched ECSU (1-2) knock four from the charity stripe in the last minute to season the victory. Miles struggled with free throws the entire game, missing 12 and shooting just less than 46 percent from the line.

Even with the issues on free throws, it looked as if the Lady Golden Bears were in position to take home their second win of the young season.Blue knocked down three 3-pointers en route to 13 first half points and got 13 points off of 14 ECSU turnovers to take a 31-26 lead into the half. It looked even better to start the second half as Brown scored six of the team's first eight points to give Miles its biggest lead, 39-28, less than four minutes into the second half.

But the bottom fell out after that basket. Jadda Jeffries scored eight points in less than 90 seconds to whittle the deficit to three points. She then added another 3-pointer at the 10:29 mark to give ECSU a 47-45 advantage and Miles would not lead again. Alasha Foster's (four points, four rebounds) basket with 3:54 left tied the game at 55 but Blue missed the second of two free throws with 1:08 remaining that would have tied the game again and the Lady Golden Bears would run out of time.

Miles is in action again on Nov. 25 when it hosts Selma University at Knox-Windham Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
