Box Score FAIRFIELD, AL -- The Golden Bears used the NCAA DII National Game of the Week to bounce back from a tough loss the week prior to defeat Benedict College, 23-13, in front of a national television audience and a crowd of 7,249 on Thursday evening at Albert J. Sloan-Alumni Stadium in Fairfield, Alabama.

Miles College improves to (2-3, 1-1 SIAC) while Benedict College falls to (2-2, 0-2 SIAC).

After defering to receive until the second half the Golden Bears forced a Benedict three-and-out on the first series of the game. MC waisted little time to get on the board when the senior duo of quarterback, Demetric Price, and wide receiver, Antonio Pitts, connected on a 37 yard touchdown pass down the middle of field for an early 7-0.

Miles College extended the lead early in the second quarter when Price capped a nine play, 65-yard drive that lasted 3:04, with a one yard TD plunge making the score 14-0.

Benedict would get on the board in the second quarter when Christopher Crosby blocked a Miles field Goal attempt and Zeffrey Clark, Jr., picked it up and ran 73 yards for the BC score cutting the lead to 14-6 after a failed extra point attempt.

The Golden Bears capitalized on some Tiger miscues to force a safety on a BC punt attempt extending the lead to 16-6. On the ensueing possession Miles freshman runningback, Jamarcus Hill, barreled into the endzone from two yards out with only :34 remaining in the half extending the MC lead to 23-6.

Both defenses picked up the intensity and remained scoreless in the third quarter. Early in the fourth quarter Benedict quarterback, Cameron Stover, found wide reciever Kencariss Brown in the back of the endzone on a 26 yard strike cutting the Golden Bear lead to 23-13.

The Mile College defense would hold of a late Tiger threat for the 23-13 victory.

The Golden Bears completely controlled the running game out-gaining Benedict 206-15 on the ground, while the Tigers held the edge in the air 262-214.

MC was led offensively by Hill who finished with a career-high 125 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown. Price finished the night 15-of-30 for 214 yards and a touchdown while Pitts ended the night with two catches for 53 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively junior defensive end, Braysean Jones, ended the evening with six tackles, one sack, 1.5 tackles for loss and two quarterback hurries. Micheal Mitchell led all Golden Bear tacklers with eight tackles, 2.5 for loss and two pass breakups.

Benedict was led by Stover who finished the night passing 28-of-46 for 262 yards and a touchdown while Evan Pegues led the way on defense with a game-high 16 tackles, 5.5 for loss.

Miles College returns to action October 11th as the Golden Bears host Central State University (OH) for Homecoming 2014 at Albert J. Sloan-Alumni Stadium. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m.
