GOLDEN BEARS SPOIL LANE HOMECOMING IN DOMINATING FASHION, 51-0
Box Score JACKSON, TN – The Golden Bears spoiled Lane College's homecoming in dominating fashion, 51-0, in front of 3,889 fans in Jackson, TN on Saturday afternoon.
Miles College improves to (5-3,4-1 SIAC) while the Dragons fall to (1-6, 1-4 SIAC).
The Golden Bears waisted little time getting on the board as leading rusher,
Jonathan Clark, burst up the middle for a 53-yard touchdown run just 1:20 into the game giving MC the early 7-0 lead.
On the ensuing possession MC capitalized on a blocked punt by Xavier Bacon that was returned 22 yards by Leonard Farris for the touchdown extending the lead to 14-0.
Starting for the second consecutive week sophomore quarterback,
David Whipple, didn't waist any time starting where he left off as he connected with leading receiver,
Antonio Pitts on a 21 yard strike making he score 21-0.
Wipple wasn't done as he found senior wide receiver,
Darren Fife, on a 52 yard touchdown pass making the score 28-0 first quarter score.
The Golden Bears would add a safety and a 25 yard TD run by
Jamarcus Nance giving MC the 37-0 halftime lead.
Miles College would add two second half scores on a touchdown runs by Whipple (six-yards) and Bacon (nine-yards) making the final score 51-0.
MC's defense again dominated as they held Lane to only 194 total yards while only allowing the Dragons to rush for 53-yards.
Offensively Whipple finished the day passing 8-for-15 for 132 yards and two touchdowns while he also added another TD on the ground. Pitts finished with four catches for 60-yards and a touchdown.
Defensively the Golden Bears were led by
Michael Mitchell who finished with nine tackles (6 solo) and
Skylar Smith who finished with two sacks. MC finished with four total tackles.
Miles College returns to the friendly confines of Albert J. Sloan-Alumni stadium next Saturday, November 1
st as they host the Tigers of Stillman College in an SIAC western division battle. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. CT
