LADY BEARS FALL TO BENEDICT IN VOLLEYBALL SEASON OPENER, 3-0

BIRMINGHAM, AL -- The Miles College Lady Bears opened up the 2013 volleyball season with a 3-0 loss to Benedict College at the CrossPlex on Friday evening in front of a great crowd of 229.
MC lost in three sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-19).
MC (0-1, 0-0 SIAC) was led by junior and Birmingham, Ala. native Reaucheandra Mathews whom finished with a match-high six kills and fellow freshman,
Kiana Barnes, who finished with a match-high 11 assist. Defensively the Lady Bears were led by junior,
Briana Gatlin, who had a match-high five solo blocks.
Leading the way for the Lady Tigers of Benedict College (1-0, 0-0 SIAC) was Terae Sweeting who finished with six kills and Ashley Jackson whom had a match-high 10 service aces to go along with her 11 assist.
The Lady Bears return to action next Friday, as they travel to Tuskegee, Ala. for the SIAC West Cluster hosted by Tuskegee University. MC takes on LeMoyne-Owen College at 9 a.m., followed by Kentucky State University at 1:30 p.m., and close out the cluster with a match-up against Lane College at 4:30 p.m.
