MILES WIN DOUBLEHEADER OVER KENTUCKY STATE

Box Score 2 BIRMINHAM, AL (March 9, 2013) – The Miles College Lady Bears (5-10; 2-0) softball team swept a twin bill from Kentucky State University (5-9; 0-2) on Saturday at A. H. Parker High School. The Lady Bears claimed a 5-0 victory in game one and a 4-2 win in game two.
In game one, MC jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one inning of play.
Terri Roberts walked,
Tina Taylor grounded out to the pitcher; advancing Roberts to third.
Kayla Cox singled in Roberts for the RBI. The Lady Bears big opportunity came in the bottom of the six innings with
Keyana Chapman double over the center fielder head and a double by
Paige Dill scored Chapman 2-0.
Katie Haistens reached base on an error by the shortstop; Paige advanced to third. Haistens stole second, Dill scored an unearned run on an error by the shortstop 3-0. Baianna Barrentine walked and
Kendra O'Neal singled in Haistens for the 4-0 score. Taylor singled, O'Neal advanced to second and Barrentine advanced to third. Roberts ground out to third, scored Barrentine for the 5-0 victory.
In game two of the day, the Lady Bears jumped on top early in the fourth. Cox doubled,
Sara Mason singled and advanced to second on the throw; Cox advanced to third. Barrentine doubled in Mason and Cox to give MC a 2-0 lead. KSU tied the score in the top half of the six with singles by Anderson and Martinez. Stallworth singled in Anderson for KSU first score 2-1, while Martinez advanced to third. Jasmine Villamar grounded out to second to score Martinez for the tie at 2-2. MC added two more runs in the bottom half of the six, after Cox placed a single down the left field line, then advanced to second on an error by the second baseman.
Stephanie Woods pinch ran for Haistens and Barrentine ground out to the pitcher moved Woods and Cox over. O'Neal doubled in the two final runs 4-2 for the win.
Amanda Talley (2-4) picked up both wins for MC by throwing a complete game one, allowing three hit and striking outs five. Talley game relieved
Talana Brown in the second game after Brown had gone 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits, Talley closed out the game with 1.2 innings and no runs off three hits.
“It is really nice to get these two conference wins under our belt,” head coach
Patrick Peasant state. “Simply, we showed up and played ball! I am proud of our progress, but we still have much work ahead of us. Today this team believed in one another. I hope we continue to believe and continue to build.”
MC will return to action on Sunday, March 10 for the two final games of the series with Kentucky State University, first game starts at 1 p.m. at A. H. Parker High School.
