LADY BEARS AMANDA TALLEY OVER POWER KENTUCKY STATE WITH FOUR WINS

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BIRMINGHAM, AL (March 10, 2013) – Senior pitcher Amanda Talley (Pinson, AL) (4-4) begin the weekend with a 0-4 record, but after this weekend conference series with Kentucky State University (5-11; 0-4),  Miles College (7-10; 4-0) and Talley walked away with four conference wins over Kentucky State at A. H. Parker High School.

MC won game one on Sunday, March 10 over KSU by a score of 8-0 and 5-4 in the game two. Talley threw a six innings shutout in game one, her second in two days, while giving up four hits, zero walks and two strikeouts. She relieved freshman pitcher Talana Brown (Bulter, AL) in the third inning of game two and allowed one run in four games for her fourth win. Brown went three innings giving up three unearned runs on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

For the weekend, junior outfielder Keyana Chapman (Mumford, AL) led the Lady Bears with three RBI's while collecting three hits and scored twice. Senior outfielder Terri Roberts (Prattville, AL) led the team with three runs scored and senior infielder Kendra O'Neal followed with two crossing the plate. Several MC players had one RBI and one run scored each.

Game one, MC scored one run in the first, three in the fourth and four in the six, off six hits and one error. KSU had zero runs, four hits and two errors

Game two, the Lady Bears picked up one run in the second, two in the third and the go ahead run in the seventh, on seven hits and four errors. KSU led off the first inning with a run, two in the second and one in the seventh, while collecting six hits and five errors.      

Rikki Martinez led KSU with two runs and Brittney Flores had four hits.

Danielle Acosta (0-3) picked up the loss in game one, while giving up six hits, seven earned run, eight walks and three strikeouts. Lorena Villamar (0-3) received the loss in game two by allowing five runs (two earned) off seven hit and three strikeouts.

Mile will host the 2013 SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament in Jasper, AL from Thursday-Saturday, March 14-16 with games starting at 10 a.m. On Thursday, March 14 the Lady Bears will play Albany State University at 12 and Clark Atlanta University at 4 p.m., Friday, March 15 Claflin University at 12 and Fort Valley State University at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 16 Benedict College at 10 a.m. and Paine College at 4 p.m.
