MILES LADY BEARS FALL 44-55 TO PAINE
Box Score FAIRFIELD, AL – The Miles College Lady Bears basketball team lose their fifth straight game this afternoon 44-55 to the Lady Lions of Paine College in Augusta, GA at their new HEAL Complex.
Miles falls to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the SIAC, while Paine improves to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Miles went to halftime down 16-33 while hit just 20% from the floor and 50% at the foul line and Paine shot 40.6% from the field and 0% from the free throw line.
Miles shot only 24.6% (13-of-61) from the field, 16.7% (1-for-6) from beyond the arc and 54.2% (13-of-24) at the charity line in the first half. Paine hit 37.1% (23-of-62) shots from the floor and 57.1% (8-for-14) on the foul line.
Senior power forward
Courtney English (Atmore, AL) led the Lady Bears in scoring with her six double-double 11 points and 12 rebounds. English was 1-of-13 in shooting, 9-of-12 at the charity strip, had two assist, two blocks and two steals. Freshman point guard
Shierkerriea Nelson (Washington County, GA) added 11 points and five rebound and freshman center
Asia Anchrum (Birmingham, AL) grabbed another 9 boards.
Ashley Watts led Paine in scoring with 18 points, Ariel Brown had a double-double 12 points and 10 boards and Kiara Johnson had a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Lady Bears lone bright spot came in the first half at the 16:06 mark as they jumped out to a 4-point lead. Paine took over from there and went out to a 17-point lead with 6:44 left. Paine would take its second 17-point lead with 1:28 remaining.
In the second half, the Lady Bears with 3:28 left cut Paine lead to 8-points on a layup by junior point guard
Enria Samuels (Marietta, GA), but it was the Lady Lions putting the game away for an 11-point advantage and 55-44 win.
Next game: Miles will be at home as they host the Lady Rams of Albany State University on Saturday, January 12 at 1 p.m. in Knox-Windham Gym.
