Courtney English (Atmore, AL) led the in scoring with her fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 16 rebounds, but it was not enough to overcome a 55-52 loss to Claflin University on Thursday, January 3 in Orangeburg, SC.
Claflin went to halftime up 25-17, while Miles hit just 26.9% (7-of-26) shots from the field and 100.0% (2-of-2) at the foul line. Claflin shot 27.8% (10-of-36) from the floor and 3-of-4 (75.0%) at the free throw line.
English sank 7-of-10 shots from the floor, hit 5-of-6 free throws, had three blocks, one assist an two steals, while junior point guard
Enria Samuels (Marietta, GA) added 15 points.
Tylesha Brown scored 14 points to lead Claflin and Laquanda Wiliams grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.
Miles shot 36.2% (21-of-58) from the field in the second half, made 87.5% ( 7-of-8) free throws and Claflin hit just 26.5% (18-of-68 shots from the floor and 65.0% (13-of-20) shots at the foul line.
Miles will play Benedict College at home on Saturday, January 5 at 1 p.m.
