Courtney English (Atmore, AL) led the Miles College women's basketball team in scoring with her 8th double-double and a game-high 28 points and 18 rebounds in the teams loss of 64-71 to Albany State University on Saturday, January 12 at Knox-Windham Gym.
At the half, Miles was down 26-38 behind six points by freshman guard
Imani Simmons (Washington County, GA) and senior power forward
Courtney English (Atmore, AL) and English with 9 rebounds. Kourtney Alaxander led Albany State with 10 points and Kedeemya Cooper's 9 boards.
Miles shot 51.5% from the field and went 1-for-1 at the free throw line. Albany State hit 44.4% of their shots from the floor and 22.2% at the foul line.
In the second half, the Lady Bears hit 45.8% (27-of-59) shots from the floor, was 8-for-22 (36.4%) in 3-pointers and 90% (9-of-10) at the free throw line. Albany State scored on 26-of-59 (44.1%) shots from the field and 12-of-28 (42.9%) at the line.
Miles grabbed 34 rebounds to Albany State 40, but turned the ball over 19 times to Albany State 25. Miles scored 30 points in the paint, 18 points off turn overs, 10 points off second chance shots and scored 15 points off bench play. Albany State scored 28 points in the paint, 25 points off turnovers, 14 points off fast breaks and 20 points off the bench.
English hit 11-of-22 shots from the field, went 6-of-14 at the foul line, had 3 assist, 3 steals and one block. Simmons and freshman guard
Shierkerriea Nelson (Washington County, GA) added 8 and 7 points each.
April Thomas scored 25 points to lead the Lady Rams and Kedeemya Cooper adds 12 rebounds.
