MILES LADY BEARS DROP DOUBLEHEADER TO VALDOSTA STATE

FAIRFIELD, AL – The Miles College Lady Bears (3-14; 1-3) was routed by Valdosta State University Blazers (15-2) this afternoon 0-9 and 4-20 in two shortened games. Game one went six innings and the second game five.

Kayla Cox had the Lady Bears only hit in game one, while Valdosta State had 12.

Heather Mitchell (0-7) took the loss while going six innings and allowing nine runs (three earned) giving up one walk and one strike out. Alanna Hadley (7-1) picked up the win as she gave up one hit and had nine strike outs.

Valdosta Stats scored one run each in the first and second inning and four in the fourth and three runs in the six.

In game two, the Lady Bears faired a little better by pushing four runs across the plate and getting six hits. Kendra O'Neal went 2-for-2 with two runs scored; Amanda Talley was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs. Tiffany Roberts and Katie Haisten each had one hit, while Roberts scored a run.

Amanda Talley (1-3) went one inning, giving up four earned runs off four hits and one strike out, while Heather Mitchell came in for four inning to allow 16 runs (10 earned) off 18 hits. Brianna Hancock (4-1) got the win for Valdosta State by giving up three runs (none earned) on four hits and striking out six. Courtney Gunby threw two innings, giving up one run and two hits.

Miles scored three runs in the third and one run in the fifth, while Valdosta State four runs in the first, seven in the fourth and nine in the fifth.     

The Lady Bears next game will be in Jasper, AL as they host the 2012 SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament from March 15 -17, 2012.
